Veterinary Referral
Under the Veterinary Act, veterinary physiotherapists must work under the guidence of a veterinary surgeon if the animal is under their care for a medical condition.

This means that if we are treating an injury/disease, we need your vets approval before we begin. This is just a quick form we send off to be signed by the vet. For this, we need your name, your animal's name and the vet practice name they are registered with.

If your animal is fit and healthy, then the session is classed as maintenance and veterinary approval is not needed. This is the case for many horses and some sporting dogs.
Insurance
If your animal has insurance, physiotherapy may be covered under their policy. It is usually under either veterinary or complimentary treatments.

For dogs and cats, depending on the condition, we like to start with weekly appointments and spread them out depending on how they progress.

For horses, if they have an injury and a course of INDIBA, then weekly or twice weekly sessions may be needed, spreading them out as they heal. Conditions such as suspensory desmitis may need ongoing monthly top up sessions.

Equine and canine sports maintenance sessions are usually between 6-12 weeks apart, depending on their workload, stage of career/season and previous injuries. Performance sessions may be before and after competition for optimal prep and recovery.
